Jackie has cracked the whip and now I must resume my blogging duties.
The FDA has approved food produced from cloned animals, but added that this information cannot be noted on food packaging. As a consumer, I've got a pretty good grasp on why this information is not going to be added to the packaging...because customers may be hesitant to purchase it. I have to say I have a very bad feeling in my gut about cloning animals for food. At the risk of becoming a(nother) polarizing figure, I'll just be frank and say I'm afraid of where this is going. We've become a nation of overeaters, and now we have the technology to keep on keepin' on with our cloned animal food. The food quality, in theory, will be more consistent. Food costs, in theory, will decrease.
Hubby and I were discussing this last night, and he believes food from cloned animals will be a good thing because of the quality and pricing. I'm interested to know what the general consensus is from my readers. That means you, Jackie.

The only good I can think of would be to provide food for poorer nations. But, those nations aren't getting our help now and I doubt we'd use the cloning for that purpose. Instead it would be used so that Walmart could offer you instant fresh beef somewhere down the line for $3 and the local farmer will be long gone. It's hard to see this going anywhere good. Maybe I'm too Orwellian.
Still one must remember animal cloning can lead to human cloning and ..."Soylent Green is people!!!"
Soylen Green! YES!! Also, the Twilight Zone episode: "How to Serve Man" is a cookbook!
I agree with your post, Mish. It feels like our technology is on an out of control roller coaster.
As long as McDonalds does not stop making my quarter pounder (without cheese) I don't care what was cloned to make it.
When did you get contacts Laura?? There is just no end to you...
speaking of food--gluten free folk may want to check out these...

I tried their ginger snaps and they weren't half bad.
Jackie: in the future, your qp may be soylent green! Right, Mish?!?!
Mish: Where did you try Mi-Del ginger snaps? I'm curious to know who your other wheat-free friends are. Glutino and Kinnikinnick (sp?) make the best wheat-free snacks, imo. Friday I had a wheat free raspberry strudel from Naturally Yours. Saturday, I had a slice of wheat-free chocolate cake from the same store. YUM-O!
